ARTIST INFORMATION

Albert Heijdens (1941)

Albert Heijdens´works are regularly on exhibit in Holland, Belgium, France and Spain. Although he started his career as a theatre producer, artistic design had always played a central roll in his productions. Since 1991 he focuses on plastic arts. As a base for his paintings and objects he uses metals such as zinc, brass and iron. He lets the metal oxidate and uses the oxidated material for etching. After that, he applies different layers of oil paint, which he works with sandpaper. The layered skin that appears after this process is an important characteristic of his work. Theatre and other performing arts are still an important inspiration for Heijdens. Another visible source of inspiration is his regular stays in the French Pyrenees.
