ARTIST INFORMATION
Zhuang Hong Yi (1962) was born in the Chinese province Sichuan. He followed his education as an artist there and had right after his graduation several interesting exhibitions, for instance at the Sichuan Museum in Chengdu (1988). Zhuang often uses woodprints in his paintings. In later stages he also changes the final result by painting and sticking on the paper, or even removing parts of the paper. After his education at the Art Academy Minerva in Groningen he stays in the Netherlands and he soon has great success with several solo-exhibitions, for instance at the Groninger Museum (2001). Zhuang uses a sing language that shows a very special mix of Chinese and Western motives. The expression of this mix can be quite different; some times like a fairytale and narrative, or autonomic, or abstract and calligraphist.
