ARTIST INFORMATION
Kantcho Kanev (1957, Bulgaria) studied visual arts with Professor Kiril Stanchev in Rousse, Bulgaria. He practised many different techniques, such as painting, drawing, etching, silk print and ceramics. In 1991, he moved to The Hague, Holland, where he has lived and worked since then. In 1992 he had his first exhibition in The Netherlands, which was the start of his fast growing career. His paintings are exhibited in international museums and galleries in Bulgaria, The Netherlands, Germany and Japan. His work was rewarded with several awards, among which the important Tokyo Mini-Print Triennial award. Last year, Kantcho Kanev had a big retrospective in Paris and The Hague. His style and symbolism take the viewer into Kantcho Kanev’s world: A mix of the old Bulgaria with the modern life in Western-Europe. Every glance at the work reveals new surprises, which makes it almost endlessly interesting.
