ARTIST INFORMATION
Theo Koster
The work of Theo Koster seems to be an ode to the Dutch painters of the Golden Age, who introduced a whole new way of landscape painting. The division of levels in the painting is very similar: grand skies above land or water with a low horizon. Another similarity is in the emphasis that is put on the atmosphere of the painting. A threatening, dark blue sky hangs above a bright field. Theo Kosterīs feeling for color and the dynamic painting style create a specific atmosphere in every single painting. In spite of the playful composition, Kosterīs paintings always maintain calmness. A calmness that is found in all his paintings, because of their great balance in composition. His work is not only popular in the Netherlands, but also regularly exhibited in other countries. At this moment, there is a big exhibition of his work in a museum in India.
